Local leaders are looking to expand a Capital District bike share program into Warren County, the county said in a press statement today.
The county’s office of Employment and Training Administration along with Greater Glens Falls Transit and the Capital District Transportation Authority is proposing an expansion of the CDPHP Cycle! bike share program to Warren County.
No word on the number of bicycles or stations that the county will get.
"We're just in the planning stages," said Scott Sopczyk with GGFT. He encouraged people to watch an infomational meeting about it this Wednesday at 10 a.m. on the county's YouTube channel.
He did not want to offer details at this time, saying, "The plan might get tweaked by Wednesday."
The CDPHP is an HMO and they work with CDTA to promote a healthy lifestyle in the community, their website says.
The basic way bike shares work is that bicycles are stored at locked stations all over an area. People set up accounts to rent the bikes. With a phone app or an access code, they can unlock a bike and ride it, dropping it back at any of the bike stations in the area. They are charged a base fee and for the amount of time that the bicycle was used. No word if the Glens Falls trial will work in this way.
Saratoga Springs, the closest location with the CDPHP Bikes! Station, has 13 stations across the city, a handful in the downtown area, and the rest spread across the city, according to a map on the CDPHP Cycle! website.
The CDPH program offers 350 bikes for use around the Capital Region, the press release says. They have bike stations in Schenectady, Troy, and Albany as well as Saratoga. The program in the Albany area is currently shut-down for the winter, and there is no information about costs for 2021 currently.
