The Warren County Board of Supervisors has selected John Taflan, a former executive with the National Security Agency, to serve as Warren County Administrator, officials tell FoothillsBusinessDaily.com. Chestertown Supervisor Craig Leggett has been acting county administrator since August 2, 2022. Taflan replaces Ryan Moore, who was Warren County Administrator from 2018 until last August 1. He will begin in the coming weeks.
Moore was subsequently named CEO of Behan Communications, the Glens Falls strategic communications company.
Taflan comes at a time of some unrest in the county as it deals with the abrupt resignation of the Director of Tourism Alfred Snow who held the job for just nine weeks before resigning with a bitter letter.

Taflan’s family owns a home on Lake George's Cleverdale hamlet in Queensbury, officials say. His career with the National Security Agency in Washington D.C., included stints as Director of Human Resources, overseas Intelligence Officer, and the agency’s Director of Public Works.
He oversaw the design and construction of the NSA’s new campus at Fort Meade, Maryland and other campuses across the United States. He was a senior advisor in the Chertoff Group, a major risk reduction consultancy in Washington, D.C. The Chertoff Group was started by Michael Chertoff, the director of the Department of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2009.
Taflan completed his career serving on the NSA Board of Directors. Taflan is a retired Army officer who received his commission from West Point. His wife, Heidi is a retired naval officer. The couple have two grown daughters who live in Maryland.
According to the Chronicle story, he will earn $120,000 per year with the county.
