Katie Camarro remembers when you did not go to Saratoga Hospital for serious care.
But now?
"I'm just so grateful we have such a good hospital," the co-owner, with her husband, of Greenfields Greatest Food Company in Wilton said in a recent interview.
She has been active in volunteer work and fundraisers for the hospital.
On Feb. 8, she and her husband Jeff Shinaman donated 125 cases of their mint and raspberry hot fudge to Saratoga Hospital employees--but not to the plastic surgeons, Camarro joked.
The jars went to security, the maintenance workers, housekeeping, the people who salt the sidewalks and the others who turn down sheets.
“The lower-wage workers,” she said, adding that she appreciates the work they do that is sometimes ignored.
“It was just a small thing,” she said of the 1,500 jars of her famous ice cream topping. “It’s just a little sweetness in their day.”
Sundaes Best, the brand name of their fudge, is very well known nationally. Good Morning America touted the product last June. They sell in 450 retail locations nationwide. They wholesale to kitchens. Because of COVID, they are selling much more online.
Precoivid, they sold a lot internationally, as well, Camarro said, though that revenue stream has fallen off, for now.
This is also the company’s 20th year. They started in November 2001. The original flavor uses the same family recipe as it always has, Camarro said.
