Samantha Guerra has formally announced her candidacy for Commissioner of Accounts on the Saratoga Springs City Council. She has a passion and strong drive for overseeing daily operations and management and has secured endorsements from the Working Families, Republican and Conservative lines, the press release announcing her candidacy says.
"We just need to modernize our Accounts Department,” she said in an interview this afternoon.
Originally from Idaho, she said she went online and ordered a new birth certificate in minutes. Here, she said, a person has to go to the website, find the form, print it, fill it out and mail it.
“It’s the year 2021, and you can't go online and order a birth certificate in Saratoga Springs,” she said, adding that she’s looking toward improving efficiency and helping create an effective budget for the city.
“The fiscal challenges our city faces are real,” she said in the press release. “I will reimagine, redesign and modernize Accounts to ensure that all programs and services are effectively fulfilling the needs of our community.”
Guerra previously ran the multimillion-dollar, flagship store for the regional Dunkin’ Donuts where she successfully performed a wide-array of duties from managing human resources to budgets to stocking shelves, her press release said.
She is also in the process of obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Economics. Guerra has been a stay-at-home mom, caring for her two sets of twins.
A domestic violence survivor, she wants to ensure that the programs that were once a lifeline for her and her family are continuing to operate successfully and efficiently to provide life-changing relief and aid to the community.
“I want to give back to the community that helped me to become a survivor and create a better, safer life for myself and my children. I want to show my children that when life presents challenges, hard-work, perseverance and faith will take you on a tremendous journey," she wrote in the press release.
Saratoga Springs has been home to Samantha since she was a teenager and is home for her two sets of twins, ages nine and six.
