Scirocco Quarantining
Today is the day before Election Day for Saratoga Springs City Council and incumbent Commissioner of Public Works, Anthony “Skip” Scirocco, is quarantining at home with his wife who has COVID. Mayor Meg Kelly made the announcement during the council pre-agenda meeting Monday morning Nov. 1. His campaign did not respond to a quick request for comment.
The mayor said the measure was precautionary and the couple was OK.
Election day is Tuesday Nov. 2. Scirocco faces independent Domenique Yermolayev, on the Democratic and Functional Party lines.
No financials from ghost campaigns
Elections are tomorrow, and the final financial summaries of the candidates came in just over a week ago. No responses came from three Working Families Party candidates—Maxwell Rosenbaum, Bruce Altimar, Gabriel O’Brien, David Labate, Donald Reeder and Sierra Hunt—who apparently ran ghost campaigns, the argument from the left goes, to keep Democrats from grabbing the WFP lines for themselves. Statewide, the WFP is more affiliated with the most-left portions of the Democratic party. Some of those racing as WFP candidates in Spa City travel in conservative circles, and they did not campaign.
Samantha Guerra, running as a Republican and Conservative for Commissioner of Accounts as well as on the WFP line, turned in financials. She had $3459.75 to start the cycle on Oct. 1 and took in a whopping $8,000 in receipts. She had $11,749 on Oct. 23 (a day after the report was due).
Supervisors' financial statements
Shaun Wiggins, running in Saratoga Springs as a Democrat for one of two county supervisor slots, did not turn in financial forms, but he explained he totally self-financed his campaign, and therefore he does not have to file.
Incumbent Supervisor Tara Gaston’s last financial statement, Oct. 12, 2021, is either very late for the Oct. 1 deadline (which can run afoul of campaign law) or very early for the Oct. 22 deadline. She did not respond to a text earlier today asking about that. Still, on hand Oct. 12 she had $1,797.63. Gaston is running on the Democratic line.
Incumbent Michael Veitch, a Republican, had $7304.86 in the bank at the end of the final reporting period.
Republican John Safford had $4549.41 on hand Oct. 22.
