Springs: City Hall fully reopens

Steve Thurston (2021)
The doorway at left leads to the Music Hall entrance of Saratoga Springs City Hall. From June 2021 until January 2022, a greeter station was placed in the hallway in front of, or to the side of, the doorway, and a police officer sat on a chair nearby.
Attendees at the Saratoga Springs City Council meeting Tuesday Jan. 18 were greeted at the doors of City Hall by no one.
Ever since City Hall reopened last June—after a six-month, pandemic-forced closure—the grand front doors had been locked to the general public and people entering the building from the Music Hall entrance at the side of the building were met with a greeter sitting at a table and a police officer on a nearby chair.
Neither were on duty before the Tuesday night council meeting Jan. 18.
“It’s a nice look to tell the world, we’re not paranoid,” newly-elected Commissioner of Public Safety Jim Montagnino said. He took office in January. He added, the unlocked front doors and the standdown order for the police: “That was all Jason’s suggestion.”
Jason Tetu is Montagnino’s deputy commissioner, who until recently, was Sgt. Jason Tetu of the Saratoga Springs Police Department.

Schuylerville Special Meeting Jan. 19
Schuylerville will hold a special village trustee meeting at 6:30 after last week’s meeting was cancelled when the board realized it would not have a quorum.
This meeting will approve vouchers and two fire contracts. As well, the board plans to hire a new firefighter, Eric Grabowski, for a probationary period.
The meeting will be held Wednesday Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Hall, 35 Springs St.
Village Mayor Dan Carpenter says that any public hearings or votes about the proposed parking ordinance and zoning will be held in February.

Stewart’s closing Central Avenue shop
From a press release: Stewart’s Shops is announcing the closure of its Central Ave shop on 1710 Central Avenue in Albany, NY. The shop will permanently close on Sunday, January 16th. All Partners have been offered opportunities in nearby locations.
Unfortunately, this shop does not have the ability to accommodate the equipment or space needs to expand food-to-go offerings or gasoline and cannot expand to meet the needs of customers.
This closure is not a reflection of the company overall; Stewart’s Shops continues to grow and has invested in surrounding area shops. Stewart’s Shops is expanding to new markets, rebuilding and improving existing locations. In 2022, the company will once again invest $50 million in construction of new shops and shop additions, with 20 new shops, 13 rebuilds and 7 new to market shops.
Stewart’s Shops thanks their Central Avenue customers for their patronage and offers nearby shops for their convenience including the newest Stewart’s Shop located less than a mile away on 1560 Central Avenue.
