The Saratoga Builders Association celebrated its 25th annual Showcase of Homes by making a record donation to Rebuilding Together Saratoga County and Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties.
“This year was amazing, in terms of the number of people who toured the homes, the people who attended and the amount we were able to give back to helping people who are less fortunate when it comes to housing and home improvement needs,” said Barry Potoker, executive director of Saratoga Builders Association.
The professional trade association donated $78,000 to the two nonprofits centered on housing for Saratoga County residents in need. Since its inception, the Showcase of Homes has raised and donated more than $1.4 million to the two charities.
“We are promoting a tour of brand-new homes in Saratoga County and proceeds go back to helping people with their lives and their houses,” Potoker said.
The Showcase of Homes features newly constructed homes — including condos, apartments, high-end showstoppers and everything between. Attendees purchase tickets, then tour designated homes.
Attendance set a record this year, as well: 4,000 people attended the event, a press release says. Potoker said that only a small percentage of people are actually in the market for a home. The showcase, over a quarter-century, has become a social event for some while others are looking for remodeling ideas.
“Most of the people are looking for what the trends are in interior design, paint colors, furniture. All the homes are staged, so you’re walking into a home that is all set up and ready to roll. People who are doing home improvements, additions, things like that, get ideas for what they can do in their homes,” Potoker said.
Darryl Leggieri, with Discover Saratoga, agrees.
He wrote in an email that Saratogians look forward to this event for new ideas and trends, but they also, "gather with friends and make a really fun day of it.
"With all of the amazing talent that is displayed by our local builders, it is a must see event during the fall season!” he wrote.
Todd Shimkus, the president of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, says the event is great not just for the builders but for the suppliers since people get ideas for various rooms, including ideas for fixtures and furniture.
"The Builders Association then uses the proceeds to help local charities," Shimkus said in a text. "It's a win all around."
The event was held over two weekends in October.
This year 12 homes were presented by 11 builders, including BDC Group, Beechwood Homes, Bella Home Builders, Belmonte Builders, Bonacio Construction, Caruso Builders, Kodiak Construction, Kohler Homes, McPadden Builders, R & M Homes and Witt Construction, press materials say.
