Megan Seeley joined the Lake George Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau as the new marketing coordinator at the start of March. She was the former head of marketing for Seeley Office Systems and has worked as a consultant for small businesses in the area.
"The CVB has always been there, but I really want to make it more visible" to business people, tourists and others, she said, adding that creating the awareness is going to be a big part of the job.
Her work fits with the theme expressed by other local promoters and developers. Tourists should think to come to Lake George in the summer, of course, but those tourist along with other groups, gatherings, conventions, meetings and weddings should be thinking of Lake George and greater Warren County during every season, she said.
"It's a year-round destination. It's a seven-day-a-week destination,” she said.
The CVB is an arm of the larger Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce, but it is funded through the Warren County occupancy tax, which is paid by hotels, motels and, now, homeowners who use rental apps like Airbnb.
Therefore the work Seeley completes with the Convention Sales Manager Christine Thorne and LGRCVB Tourism Training Manager Roger Allan is aimed at the county more broadly.
"Lake George waterfront is great, but it's really the whole county," she said. "I’m trying to attract people to all sorts of venues."
She said, though the term is already becoming cliche, the pandemic has forced the CVB to “pivot,” as they rebuild the CVB.
“We are thrilled to add Megan Seeley to the team. Her experience and expertise will help us reach our marketing goals,” chamber Executive Director Gina Mintzer said in the press announcement. As the director, she oversees the CVB, as well.
Seeley said that much of her family is in the Lake George area, and she is looking forward to becoming an even stronger part of the community there.
