The Village of Schuylerville will purchase a garbage truck for just shy of $155,000, putting down $44,953.60 and borrowing $100,000 in bonds. The new truck will replace an old one.
"It's in really bad shape," said Cory Heyman. She added that the maintenance crew miraculously has kept the old truck alive, but it is really too far gone. It is "kind of held together with duct tape and baling wire."
She said at just $2 per week for pickup, the truck is a good service for people. The village sends crews out to get garbage and brush and, once a year for $10, couches, chairs and other large items.
The village board approved the purchase, and Heyman's ability to move forward without further board approval, at the meeting on Nov. 9.
Funny sidebar: A typo in the draft minutes about the truck had its value at $103 million dollars. The mistake was fixed during a recent village board meeting, but Heyman mused during an interview that a truck of that cost could take recyclables and turn them instantly into clothing!
