Queensbury-Glens Falls Memorial Day ceremonies

Leaders in Queensbury and Glens Falls have planned two events for this weekend, a remembrance ceremony, with the theme “Our Flag Waves for Those Who never Wavered,” and a related dedication of a plaque to add 75 more names to the memorial wall of the Victory and Peace Monument in Glens Falls. 

The cermonies start at the Cool Insuring Arena/Glens Falls Civic Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Glens Falls, at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Memorial Day. The plaque dedication will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Victory and Peace Monument near Crandall Park, 576 Glen St., Glens Falls. Parking for the plaque ceremony is available at the Glens Falls YMCA, 600 Glen St. (on the Fire Road).

Pepe Productions will film the ceremonies and upload them to the City of Glens Falls and the Town of Queensbury’s YouTube channels, a release said.

The ceremony agenda:

  • Grand Marshals: Lawrence DeMass and Joyce Flower.
  • The Star-Spangled Banner performed by Queensbury High School Band – Jim Cirillo, Director.
  • Welcome Address by Queensbury Supervisor John Strough. 
  • Pledge of Allegiance led by Girl Scouts of Northeastern NY -  Brownie Troop 3603.
  • Invocation by Pastor John Tether, Northway Christian Family Church.
  • Gettysburg Address read by Trevor DiMezza, Glens Falls HS Boys’ State Citizen.
  • Introduction of Key-Note Speaker by Glens Falls Mayor Dan Hall.
  • Key-Note Address Hon. Robert Muller, Supreme Court Judge, 4th Judicial.
  • Thoughts by Dan Stec, State Senator, 45th District and Elise Stefanik, Congressperson, 21st District.
  • The Presentation of Colors by Carl Fosco and Tim Benner.
  • Armed Forces Salute, arranged by Bob Louden, performed by Queensbury High School Band – Jim Cirillo, Director.
  • Reading of Winning Essay from Glens Falls by Olivia Vanderpool.
  • Reading of Winning Essay from Queensbury by Rachel Beth Mannix.
  • Roll Call & Placing of Wreaths by Glens Falls Mayor Dan Hall.
  • Benediction by Pastor John Tether, Northway Christian Family Church.
  • Ceremonial Firing conducted by VFW Post 2475.
  • “Taps” performed by Colin Otruba and Samuel Rowley.
  •  Presentation of Arms led by Carl Fosco & Tim Benner.
  •  Color Guards Pass in Review led by Carl Fosco & Tim Benner.
  • The Stars and Stripes Forever performed by Queensbury High School Band – Jim Cirillo, Director.
