Franklin Community Center Brings on Two New Team Members
Franklin Community Center is thrilled to announce that Wenonah Kemp and Howard Schneider have joined the team.
Wenonah is the new Program Assistant for the food pantry and Howard has taken over the custodial services for all of Franklin Community Center’s four properties. Both Wenonah and Howard bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Center.
“As a native of Saratoga County, I have long admired the philosophy and work of the Franklin Community Center and am excited to join the team” states Kemp. “I’ve had a rewarding career in youth and community services. I worked as a Family Specialist for Berkshire Farms and as an Education Outreach Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension. I was also an AmeriCorps volunteer for the Red Cross. Most recently, I managed a resale shop benefitting an animal shelter in far West Texas. I’m glad to be home—to trade my cowboy boots for snow boots—and do what I can to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families in Saratoga County.”
Howard, a self-described Jack-Of-All-Trades has a background in facilities management.
“A transplant from Yonkers, I moved to Saratoga in 2014” says Schneider, “my skills include experience with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, grounds keeping and much more. I look forward to using my skills throughout the many tasks in our buildings.”

Saratoga Hospital Wound Care Specialist Co-Authors Article On Helping Healthcare Workers Prevent PPE-Related Skin Injuries
Personal protective equipment has taken on new importance during COVID-19 as one of the most effective ways to safeguard healthcare workers. However, when worn incorrectly, especially for long periods of time, PPE can contribute to skin infections.
To help reduce this risk of infection, early in the pandemic the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel—including Saratoga Hospital Medical Group’s Dr. Lee Ruotsi—developed recommendations on preventing and treating PPE-related skin problems. Their guidance was published recently in the Journal of Clinical Nursing in the peer-reviewed article, “Best‐Practices for Preventing Skin Injury Beneath Personal Protective Equipment During the COVID‐19 Pandemic: A Position Paper from the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP).”
Recommendations include:
- Applying skin sealants, barrier creams and moisturizers before and after wearing PPE.
- Removing PPE frequently to relieve pressure on the skin, ideally for 15 minutes every two hours while away from patient-care areas.
- Treating skin injuries immediately.
- Educating healthcare workers about the correct way to wear and handle PPE.
An international expert on wound care, Ruotsi serves on the NPIAP board of directors and is chair of the education committee.
“The benefits of wearing PPE far outweigh the risks, and those risks can be mitigated with careful planning and treatment,” Ruotsi said.

New "Insights" blog series
Sustainable PR is excited to introduce a new “Insights” blog series. We’ll be weighing in on some pressing issues that companies and brands in the sustainability market are grappling with.
First up: We present a potentially unpopular opinion from a PR agency, on the contentious topic of media impressions: “Some companies and brands shouldn’t do PR just for the sake of doing PR.” A media relations campaign that prioritizes quantity over quality of media impressions is often going to undermine itself. This is especially true for companies in the sustainability space, where “greenwashing” a message to capitalize on hot news hooks and high value keywords is asking for trouble. In this space, impact trumps exposure! https://sustainablepr.com/media-impressions-impact-trumps-exposure/
