2021 Water Main and Hydrant Flushing Program
The water main & fire hydrant flushing program is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 12, 2021, in Glens Falls. Our water main & hydrant flushing program is very important to our water system. It is an integral part of our efforts to deliver the safest and highest quality water possible. A clean water distribution system also reduces taste and odor issues and results in better appearing water. Hydrant flushing also improves fire protection by testing water valves and hydrants. The flushing work is carried out in warm-weather months by Water and Sewer Department work crews, who systematically open and close fire hydrants on one section of main at a time, letting the water run at high velocity until sediment is carried out of the water main and the water is clear. Flushing starts at the northwest corner of the City and proceeds south towards the Hudson River.
The program is typically a 10 to 15 day process. Completion of the program is expected to be sometime during the middle of April. Changes to this timetable may be required, if other maintenance issues should arise such as system leaks, water quality concerns, sewer problems, etc.
Flushing Notices will be printed in local newspapers and posted in municipal buildings. Areas being affected by the flushing process will have flushing signs placed throughout each neighborhood as a reminder approximately 24 hours in advance of when the fire hydrants in their neighborhoods are scheduled to be flushed.
Flushing will take place between 7AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Saturday. We urge all residents to use caution while traveling around the hydrant flushing crews and while entering areas of water accumulation during this program.

Saratoga County to Participate in Statewide STOP-DWI St. Patrick’s Day Crackdown Enforcement Effort
Saratoga County Board of Supervisors Chairman Theodore T. Kusnierz announced today that the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and other police agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving.
The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts start on Tuesday, March 16 and will end on Sunday, March 21. St. Patrick’s Day Weekend is a notoriously deadly period for impaired driving due to the number of celebrations and drivers on the road. New York State Police, County Sheriff and municipal law enforcement agencies across the state will be out in force in this across-the-board effort to reduce the number of alcohol related injuries and deaths.
The STOP-DWI St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Crackdown is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. This partnership has allowed local programs to significantly increase their enforcement and public awareness efforts. The Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign also targets Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day Weekend, Halloween and the national Holiday Season in December.
While STOP-DWI efforts across New York have made great strides in reducing the numbers of alcohol and drug related fatalities, still too many lives are being lost because of crashes caused by drunk or impaired drivers. You can do your part to become part of the solution by downloading our FREE mobile app “Have a Plan” at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp and may the luck of the Irish be with you!
