Warren County Economic Development Corp. welcomed Amy Potter, formerly of Stewart’s Shops, as the new marketing and communications director. She attended her first official monthly board meeting via zoom on Tuesday morning. It had been a months-long process in the search and final offer.
EDC Board Chair Matt Fuller welcomed her during the meeting and then joked that he hoped Stewart’s was not angry at the EDC for picking off one of their key players.
She said in an interview yesterday some of her immediate focus will be on the various media platforms the EDC controls, adding that she will be highlighting the resources the EDC has to help the economy grow sustainably and will be helping people understand what the EDC does in the community and how it differs from other, similar organizations in the region.
Social media platforms and the WarrenEDC blog, "The Upside," should "speak in rhythm about what we do and what we have to offer," she said. She will continue to work in that direction, she said.
The EDC's mission is to be the economic engine for Warren County and to retain, grow, and attract business. Key areas of engagement for her will include regional leadership and investment in broadband and housing, and an emphasis on infrastructure that can lead to business growth, the press release announcing her position says.
She was most recently in corporate philanthropy as the corporate contributions director at Stewart’s Shops.
Born and raised on a farm in Washington County she literally and figuratively does not mind getting her hands dirty, Jim Siplon, the executive director of WarrenEDC said at the meeting.
"I love everything about her work ethic,” he said.
Potter sees the opportunity as one of growth for her, she said, and she acknowledged that the commute is a little better.
"I feel like I’m more of the community as I drive into work everyday,” she said. She will be working from the EDC office at 333 Glen St. in Glens Falls.
She said she likes the mission of the EDC to grow the local economy.
"As a mom of a young child, I just want her to feel she can stay here and find what she needs at her fingertips," Potter said.
