Pearsall Foundation gives $105,205 and underwrites NCPR
From a press release: The Glenn and Carol Pearsall Foundation is a private foundation “dedicated to improving the quality of life for year-round residents of the Adirondack Park.”
The trustees reviewed 73 grant applications totaling $378,332, fully funded the requested amount for 18 of them, partially funded 14 for a total of $105,250 awarded.
Among the awardees:
- Town of Chester Senior Center for furniture.
- Hillview Free Library, Diamond Point NY for their Adirondack Enrichment programming.
- AdkAction, Keeseville NY for outreach materials for the Adirondack Pollinator Project.
- The Lake George Arts Project to invest in artist stipends and exhibition promotional materials.
- The Wild Center, Tupper Lake NY to support the Adirondack Youth Climate Summit.
- High Peaks Hospice, Glens Falls NY for patient wound care supplies.
- Mountain Lakes PBS, Plattsburgh NY to support the Spotlight program.
- Newcomb Historical Museum for a desktop computer to develop an archival database.
- Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Latham NY to help underwrite costs for the annual North Country Conference.
- Adirondack Research Consortium, Paul Smiths NY for student stipends and waived fees for the Student Scholar program.
- North Country Public Radio for annual underwriting.
The Junior Trustees presented a proposal for their annual special grants. They selected the Seagle Festival in Schroon Lake, NY as their Adirondack not-for-profit, and chose to combine their individual $500 awards into a single $1,000 award supporting the children’s opera program. The board approved their proposal.
SUNY Adk announces appointment of four new board members
From a press release: SUNY Adirondack is proud to announce new members of the college’s Board of Trustees. Elijah Cullum, Edward Fitzgerald, Esq., Colleen McDonald and James Nolan, Ph.D., are the newest members of the 10-member board, which is the governing body of the institution, helping the college achieve its strategic goals and fulfill its mission.
"Our new members bring a diverse set of experiences to enrich and inform our work. We greatly appreciate their commitment to our community's college," said Kathleen Grasmeder, chair of the Board.
Cullum, a native of Brooklyn, is a first-generation college student studying criminal justice. He serves as a student ambassador and is this year’s student trustee.
Fitzgerald was appointed to the board by Warren County Board of Supervisors. He is a partner in the Glens Falls-based law firm of McPhillips, Fitzgerald & Cullum, for which he represents private and nonprofit businesses and landowners.
McDonald is executive director of TEACHMEducation Services, to which she transitioned after a 32-year career at Cambridge Central Schools. She worked as a teacher, teacher leader, administrator, grant writer, curriculum writer and statewide grant site director, and served as a school board member.
Nolan was appointed to the Board of Trustees by Gov. Kathy Hochul. He is a professor of Business Analytics and Computer Science at Siena College, where he taught and served for many years as dean of the college’s School of Business.
“We are excited to welcome Elijah, Ed, Colleen and Jim to our board and look forward to the important work we know they will do on behalf of our students, faculty, staff and community,” said Kristine D. Duffy, Ed.D., president of SUNY Adirondack.
