Workers remove equipment from the former Pallette Cafe in downtown Saratoga Springs, Feb. 10, 2022. The Pallette community, networking and coworking space still exists, but Pallette has sold the cafe.
The Palette Cafes, the coffee shops in both Schenectady and downtown Saratoga Springs have been sold, the owner Catherine Hover tells FoothillsBusinessDaily.com.
The Saratoga Springs cafe space will become The Broadway Grind opening in April, Hover said. Matt and Kelly Groff who own Kelly’s Kitchen Bakery and Cafe in Wilton will be the new proprietors.
The networking, community and coworking spaces will remain with Hover. She is negotiating with current “Resident Unicorn” Marcella Hammer to “take on an ownership role.” Hammer organizes and hosts many of Palette’s events.
Palette calls itself “more than coworking,” and the sale will mean a shift from coffee and pastries to the core mission of community building and networking, Hover said.
Schuylerville approves zoning code
With little fanfare, the Schuylerville Village Board approved the zoning ordinance that was drafted a decade ago, languished for years and then was resuscitated and brought to fruition over the past 18 months or more.
"The action...involves the adoption of the Village of Schuylerville's first zoning regulations which will continue to allow for development within the village, similar to what currently exists in Schuylerville," Mayor Dan Carpenter read from the prepared proposal.
Commercial uses will continue to be concentrated along Broadstreet and State Route 29 that runs east and west. Residential and recreational uses will be developed elsewhere in the village.
The village actually adopted the zoning code as created a decade ago since that was the fastest way to move the code forward. A total revision might have taken years longer. At this point, the village can change the code. Zoning codes direct where development occurs and what sort of activities might occur on a parcel of land.
"It's an accomplishment," said Leona Colvin who has been instrumental in working the plan through. "I think we've got a good product."
Once the code is on file with the state, it becomes the law of the village.
The village has hired a code enforcer, Adam Myers, and will next have to appoint people to a new Zoning Board of Appeals.
