Adirondack Winery breaks ground on $2.6 million expansion
From a press release: Adirondack Winery held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday Oct. 7, at the site of its future $2.6 million, 14,100-square-foot winemaking facility and tasting room at the site of its current Queensbury headquarters, 395 Big Bay Rd. The building will provide the family-run winery with the space to triple wine production over the next 10 years. The new building will house a rasting room and provide services such as wine by the glass, outdoor seating, and light dining (charcuterie boards, tapas, etc.). The winery will introduce classes (wine pairing, crafting, wine education) and launch tours of the new facility. There are also plans to rent event space for private events and conferences. The goal is to complete the construction by April 2022, in time for the winery’s 14th anniversary celebration. Owners say the new facility will be a craft-beverage-lover’s destination.
ECC president says NYS broadband survey is 35% done
Joe Starks, president of ECC Technologies in Rochester, told FoothillsBusinessDaily.com that the company has already completed 35% or more of a survey of broadband coverage throughout the state. Last week the Hochul Administration announced a statewide Broadband Assessment Project which will look for gaps in broadband coverage and costs associated with the coverage, among other data. Telescope Casual Furniture announces $100,000 donation, to the Granville Community Foundation, in celebration of their 100 years in Granville
From a release: The Granville Community Foundation is pleased to announced the recent gift of $100,000 by Telescope Casual Furniture, in celebration of their 100 years in Granville.
“We have always believed it is very important that the company be a very good citizen of the community we live in. This foundation is the perfect way for us to be able to promote our community and to ensure that the future of Granville will be supported as well,” Telescope CEO and GCF advisory board member Kathy Juckett said. “I offer a challenge to Granville-area businesses to join me in making a major donation to the Foundation,” Juckett said. The GCF is a donor-advised sub fund of the Glens Falls Foundation with a seven-member Advisory Board. The goal of the GCF is to evaluate local needs and opportunities and to fund projects that address broad areas of community development, education, art and culture, environment, health or social needs. The GCF is currently in the midst of a fundraising effort to raise $1 million by Dec. 31 as it prepares to begin awarding grants in 2022.
Saratoga Springs and Skidmore College to Upgrade Ice Rinks
From a press release: Commissioner of Public Works Anthony “Skip” Scirocco announced a partnership with Skidmore College for improvements at the City-owned ice rinks. Skidmore College was authorized, after a vote during the Oct. 5 Saratoga Springs City Council meeting, to build a new hockey locker facility at the Weibel Ice Rink and provide over $600,000 to the City for license fees and improvements to the rink complex.
“Skidmore is very pleased to partner with the City, and we express our appreciation to everyone on the City Council and particularly Commissioner Scirocco for his hard work and cooperation,” said Donna Ng, vice president for finance and administration and treasurer at Skidmore College. “The partnership between the City and Skidmore will benefit all of us.”
Under the agreement, Skidmore is granted a license for 3,124 feet of land adjacent to the Weibel Rink, for a period of 10 years, to construct new locker room facilities at their own expense. They will maintain the area and cover the cost of all utilities during the term of the license agreement. Skidmore can opt to renew the license agreement for an additional 10 years, and at the expiration of the agreement, the space will be turned back over to the City.
5th Annual Saratoga Motorcar Auction reaches $4.6 million in sales
From a release: The Saratoga Automobile Museum has announced that the Saratoga Motorcar Auction, sold $4.6 million in vehicles and automobile memorabilia. The Auction took place on the grounds of the Saratoga Spa State Park on Friday, Sept. 24 and Saturday, Sept. 25.
“The Saratoga Motorcar Auction remains a tremendous undertaking and its success could not have been realized without the incredible partners and sponsors that the Museum has been able to attract,” said Kevin Biebel, Chairman of the Museum’s Board of Trustees.
The Auction serves as the Museum’s major annual fundraiser. Proceeds from the Auction supports the Museum’s Safe Driving Initiatives, including the Distracted Driving Safety Program, a program that reaches nearly 25,000 students annually. Auction proceeds also support the Museum’s evolving exhibition programming.
“The success of this year’s Auction is a massive win for the future of the Museum’s initiatives,” said Carly Connors, executive director. “I cannot thank our staff, volunteers, consignors, and bidders enough for making this our most successful auction yet!”

Hudson Falls celebrates Moran-Derby Park groundbreaking
From a press release: For more than 40 years, the Moran family in Hudson Falls provided generations of area student athletes and weekend warriors with sporting goods from their locally iconic retail store. Now, brothers Brien and Mike Moran are helping give a new generation of athletes a newly revitalized place to play.
Fueled by the brothers’ $500,000 donation, the not-for-profit Derby Park Foundation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 15, marking the official start of the $1.8 million transformation of the aging and once-immensely-popular park into the completely revamped Moran-Derby Park community athletic complex and festival space.
“Our dream is coming true,” said Mike Moran. “Hudson Falls and our entire region will soon have a first rate place for sporting events, family recreation and community festivals.”
The new Moran Derby Park will feature a new basketball court, a regulation-size soccer field; a softball field; three pickleball courts; a quarter-mile walking path; two new event spaces for arts-and-crafts shows and other community festivals; a fully renovated clubhouse; and a new parking lot.
The reimagined complex was designed by The Chazen Companies in Glens Falls. Construction is being performed by Clark Companies of Delhi, NY, a specialized contractor with a sole focus on the design and construction of outdoor athletic facilities at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. Construction is expected to begin the week of Sept. 12 and be completed the spring of 2022.
