From a press release: The Lake George Land Conservancy has been awarded two grants, totaling $47,670, from the 2022 New York State Conservation Partnership Program. One of the grants will provide $20,130 to create and install a trailhead kiosk as well as educational signage at The Pinnacle Preserve in the Town of Bolton. In 2015, the 73-acre "Pinnacle" property was protected in partnership with the Town of Bolton, and in 2020 an adjoining 62-acre property known as "Bradley's Lookout” was protected; combined, the properties form The Pinnacle Preserve. The installation of a trailhead kiosk and educational signage on the trails will improve the user experience and provide information for a large audience of hikers.
The second grant of $27,540 will reimburse costs incurred by the LGLC in a 2021 transaction which protected 147-acres, including 10 acres of wetlands and nearly a mile of the Saddlebrook stream corridor that feeds into Indian Brook and ultimately Lake George’s Northwest Bay.
Working with the landowner over several years, the Saddlebrook Conservation Easement project dissolved an approved 23-lot subdivision in the Town of Bolton into just three lots. The LGLC holds conservation easements on 147-acres of the land.
Boats By George goes before Planning Department in May
From Town of Lake George Documents: Boats by George and Jarrett Engineers will go before the Town of Lake George Planning Board May 10 to discuss modifications to the Lake George Forum building, which George Pensel of Boats by George! is buying and turning into a large boat showroom.
[Our story on the purchase, read it here, is a bit outdated as that first attempt to purchase fell through. The project is back on track.]
Documents say: “The modification to previously approved Site Plan Review SPR28-2020 submitted consists of newly planned exterior work to the building, which includes façade renovations to the southern and eastern walls of the building, signage, and some minor structural changes like removing the gable roof overhangs above the exterior doorways.”
Former Lake George Harley-Davidson showroom converting to restaurant
From Town of Lake George Documents: The former Harley-Davidson motorcycle showroom at 2183 Route 9 in Lake George will become a dine-in restaurant if all goes according to plan. According to town documents, Jinfeng Ni and Jose Ortega have a plan “to convert the vacant building (Which formerly housed a Harley Davidson Retail store and a separate Ice Cream window service business) into a dine-in restaurant complete with inside seating, and to utilize the window service for food sales with the outdoor seating.”
Fort William Henry Resort is changing plans
According to Lake George Village documents, the Fort William Henry Resort is proposing changes to its project to renovate two of its restaurants and extend an outdoor patio. Kathy Muncil, CEO of the resort, recently told FoothillsBusinessDaily.com that a seldom-used performance bond regulation was partially to blame for changes to the project, but her office is working with the village on it.
According to the submitted documents: “Proposed changes include reduction of the patio space to approximately 2,784 square feet in size to include a fire table and seating, dark-sky compliant light fixtures, landscaping, and stormwater management practices. Previously proposed the limits of disturbance was to be 14,870 square feet [but] has now been changed to 11,534 square feet.”
[Performance bonds are basically a payment to the village that will ensure a project is complete, including all aspects of the site plan of the project, officials have said. Read our coverage of the project here, and associated performance bond requirements here. Read amendments to the bond ordinance here.]
