On the second floor of the Bullpen Tavern friends of the LayerEight technology company, and the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, gathered for drinks and food to cut the ribbon on the “100-year-old start-up.”
The two dozen people did so, largely, maskless.
The celebration became a celebration of spring, of the economy reopening, a return to normalcy, and a chance for the company based in Plattsburg to reintroduce itself to clients in the Glens Falls, Lake George and Saratoga areas.
“We are excited about reintroducing ourselves to the community,” Vicki Marking said yesterday during the event when the sunny-day temperature hit the mid-80s. Marking is the director of marketing for the company.
“It’s perfect that the world is opening up and we’re having an event. It couldn’t have been a better day,” she said.
Greg MacConnell, the CFO and vice president on hand for the event, said the company is a spin-off of PrimeLink of Plattsburg. Most of the same people still do the work that has always been done, but now under a new name and logo. It has connections to the earliest telecom companies from 100 years ago.
Both he and Marking said that, as PrimeLink, they had many clients in the greater Glens Falls area, and that the ribbon cutting, advertising and other marketing activities were ways to let people see that they were still there and providing services.
“This opportunity to meet in person is a rare treat,” MacConnell said.
During the ribbon cutting, he said that LayerEight offers three services: fiber network construction (laying the cable and connecting it to buildings), backend solutions for companies, and managed services. In that final scenario, LayerEight becomes the technology manager for companies that can no longer handle their I.T. needs on their own, Marking has said.
Michael Bittle, of the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, a host of the event, said, “Layer Eight is here to help a business get to the next level.”
