47th Lake George Rendezvous of the Antique and Classic Boat Society is scheduled for Aug. 27 and 28.
Drawing from a cache of $99,000, the Town of Lake George awarded $14,000 in occupancy taxes at their meeting Monday evening and agreed to pay the bill on another $25,000.
The Antique Classic Boat Society, Lake George chapter, was awarded $1,500 to support the 47th Lake George Rendezvous, Aug. 27 and 28. Although a national and international society now, it was founded in 1975 on the shores of Lake George, their website says. The society celebrates classic boats of any construction.
The Alpha-Win Lake George Triathlon requested more, but the board awarded $10,000 this year. The triathlon is set for Labor Day weekend, September 3 to 5. Alpha-Win holds triathlons and similar events around the country.
The New York State Association of County Directors of Real Property Fall Conference was awarded $2,500 for their fall conference last year, but the pandemic postponed it, and the association returned the money. Board members seemed both happy and maybe a little surprise at that announcement. There is no word on the group’s fall 2021 conference on their website, but they were awarded the money to support that. Last year’s conference was set for Oct. 20 to 22 at the Fort William Henry Conference Center.
The board approved a $25,000 payment to Improv Records, which holds numerous concerts in the Lake George area.
Town Comptroller Jenn Farrell shared a report on Improv's spending and explained to board members that she requires all recipients to follow similar reporting rules before even small amounts are paid to the recipients.
Use of the funds is expected to promote the area, promote an event, and bring people to the area to stay in hotels and to eat at local restaurants.
Warren County is considering a rule that would force tax recipients to show how their events actually drew people to the area.
