JoAnne Kiernan has formally announced her bid for Saratoga Springs Finance Commissioner.
She was endored by the Saratoga County Republican Party earlier this month.
In the press release announcing her run, Kiernan says she was motivated to run to help her community at a time when her years of business and finance experience would be needed most in city hall.
“The COVID-19 pandemic was a tremendous hardship for our businesses and community as a whole and we have come together like never before to support one another. We’re a resilient community. I’m confident I can bring my experience of business and financial planning to lead the city on a course of sustained success beyond the pandemic,” said Kiernan in the release.
Kiernan is a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA). She has worked in accounting and finance her entire career, currently working with several local businesses. She has been involved in various community organizations and is ending her tenure on the Saratoga Springs CSD Board of Education in June, her press release says.
This is the first year in many that the GOP has fielded a full slate of candidates. The GOP also noted that four of the five running are women, including Tracey LaBelle, running for commissioner of Public Safety; Samantha Guerra running for Accounts; and Heidi Owen West for mayor. Skip Scirocco is running as a Republican to keep his position as Commissioner of Public Works.
Kiernan has lived in Saratoga Springs for 18 years with her husband Todd and their two sons, Aidan and Will.
