Legacy.com is reporting that Josie Beckos Wood, widow of Charles R. Wood, died Dec. 15, 2020. Her death was confirmed through the Singleton Sullivan Potter funeral home.
According to the obituary on Legacy.com, in 1948, Josie married Constantine John “Gus” Beckos and in 1956 they opened The Montcalm Restaurant on Canada Street in Lake George, and then the Montcalm South, in 1971, and Dino’s Montcalm, in 1975, which they ran well into the 2000s.
Gus Beckos died in 2007, working up until his death, and her second husband, philanthropist Charles R. Wood died in 2004.
She was world traveler and a consummate philanthropist. She was honored with Gus by the New York State Restaurant Association with a lifetime achievement award, and by the Charles R. Wood Foundation as emeritus chair, and also emeritus director by the Double H Ranch foundation, its highest honor. She helped start Double H with Charles Wood and the actor Paul Newman in the 1990s. She supported many nonprofits in Glens Falls.
Born Georgia Pars Nov. 11, 1923, to Jane (Janopaul) Pars and Theodore “Ted” Pars, who emigrated from Greece, they moved from New England to the Albany area when she was 9. She was 97 at the time of her death.
Church services will be for the immediate family only and burial will be private. A celebration of Josie Wood's life will be planned for spring or summer. No cause of death was given.
