$3.5M toward roofs.
The Glens Falls Common Council voted to approve a budget and the city to issue bonds in the amount of $3.5 million to replace roofs on City Hall, Cool Insuring Arena civic center and the Glens Falls Recreation Center.
Last August the council approved a bond issuance of $600,000 to cover the Recreation Center roof along with planning and engineering for the improvements to the City Hall and Cool Insuring Arena/Civic Center roofs. Those bonds were never issued but used as a way to show the city was good for the money if needed, officials said. Construction of the Recreation Center roof will run $234,000.
Engineering and legal costs have run just over $328,000 for the City Hall and civic center. Tuesday night’s resolution covers the construction costs: $895,400 for City Hall’s roof; $1.9 million for the civic center roof.
Titan Roofing of Albany has won the bid to replace the roofs.
Bike Glens Falls has—or is getting—a plan
Bike Glens Falls will have a working website soon and is working on a comprehensive plan to improve the quality of biking throughout the city. The plan will make an inventory of current infrastructure and a plan to improve what is there and connect it to other biking systems in the region. Planning will include public input in an effort to be very transparent.
Ethan Gaddy told the Common Council Tuesday evening, Sept. 28, that the idea is to build a plan and then use that plan to find funding for it. Gaddy works in the Warren County planning department but was speaking as a member of Bike Glens Falls.
Norabelle Greenberger, a Senior Planner at the Chazen Companies, said the group was looking for an endorsement of their planning process from the city council.
No vote was taken, but the council generally said they were happy to help.
Ward 3 Councilwoman Diana Palmer said the city was lucky to have two planners who are taking on the project.
“We’d be glad to work with you anyway we can,” Mayor Dan Hall said.
Crandall Library Budget
The Crandall Library Board of Trustees has approved a budget of $5.2 million. It goes before voters for final approval in November. The Glens Falls Common Council approved a resolution Tuesday evening, placing the budget on the ballot. Crandall library’s reach covers the Town of Queensbury, the City of Glens Falls, and the Town of Moreau. The budget is paid proportionately and the city’s portion is $937,522, the resolution says.
