Flour Child Bakery opens Friday, Feb. 3rd, at 128 Glen Street in downtown Glens Falls in the former Abby’s Cookie Jar space. Taylor Suprenant, 21, has purchased the Abby’s Cookie Jar business from Ashley Kopf, who started the business three years ago and opened the bakery in October 2021.
“We have cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pastries, ice cream from Cooper’s Cave, and coffee,” Suprenant told FoothillsBusinessDaily.com
Flour Child Bakery will be open this week on Friday Feb. 3 and Saturday Feb. 4 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday Feb. 5 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
After that, the bakery will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Suprenant said.
A native of Fort Edward, Suprenant started Flour Child Bakery out of her home two years ago, eventually joining Kopf to help with baking.
Kopf’s husband Andrew was Suprenant’s band teacher at Fort Edward High School and asked her to join the business. She then became more involved as the Kopfs started thinking about selling the business to focus on their growing property management business.
“I’m excited,” Suprenant said. “This has been a long time coming. I’m fulfilling a dream.”
She said two years ago she wasn’t ready to own her own business.
“I had no confidence, but Ashley taught me a lot, like at the end of the day it’s just baking. I used to get so upset about every comment. I learned a lot from her,” Suprenant said.
Ashley Kopf said she and her husband had a five-year plan when they started Abby’s Cookie Jar.
“It was super important to us that she is a friend of ours,” she said of Suprenant. “Taylor has got this. She’s got the drive. She’ll figure it out, and I’ll always be available to her.
“This is hard because I invested so much time here and my identity was all wrapped up here. When I made the announcement on Facebook, the customers who responded really hit me. Our customers became our friends.”
But Kopf said “it was time. The business is doing well. The customer base is fine. But Andrew and I were being pulled in opposite directions, and we had someone ready to take it over and grow the business. It will be an easy transition.”
