Eyre Writing Center, an online tutoring service aimed at middle-schoolers, has been running out of Saratoga CoWorks with a positive cash flow since January 2020, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. Founder Jane Chen says she has many students in this region but also has students from 25 states enrolled in virtual classes.
Pot near the Vermont border
On an unused plot of land near the Vermont border, a Suffolk County businessman is proposing a $5 million cannabis growing and processing facility, the Post-Star is reporting. Tim Lorito and investors plan to close on the property in early October. They will use two buildings currently on the property, along with more construction and renovation, to grow and then process the marijuana, Lorito told the Warren-Washington Industrial Development Agency board on Monday, the story says. The land will cost the business $725,000.
Delays: Luther Forest is more than GlobalFoundries
The Times Union reports a commercial real estate broker who has rights to market 245 acres in the Luther Forest area of Malta is hamstrung by zoning that focus mainly on computer chip manufacturing. The location is near where GlobalFoundries plans to build its second, $15 billion chip-making factory. The broker says he has a client willing to buy and develop a parcel but cannot move forward because of zoning restrictions, which the town board is willing to reconsider, the story says.
NYS Constitutional “Green Amendment” what does "clean" mean?
A proposal to amend the state constitution and guarantee clean air and water in the state faces its final hurdle when voters say yea or nea to it in November, the Adirondack Explorer is reporting. The amendment has already passed twice through the state legislature, the story reports and will become law if voters approve. It has 80% approval with the public, the story says, but some North Country lawmakers fear the litigation that may follow this change given the vague nature of "clean."
