Another try for a Troy development
Hoboken Brownstone Co. of New Jersey and Troy Mayor Patrick Madden presented Wednesday, a $60 million, six-storey, mixed-use building that includes a public plaza at One Monument Square in downtown Troy, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The project has taken two years to plan and came in about twice as expensive as anticipated, but the idea was to avoid problems that others faced when trying to develop in the area previously. Victorian-era buildings are well-preserved in the neighborhood, the story says. Syvertsen Rigosu Architects PLLC of Clifton Park designed the building.
Stefanik faces fourth challenger
Matt Castelli, a former CIA agent who worked in Afghanistan and Iraq, is running to challenge U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik in NY-21. He is the fourth Democrat to announce a bid to unseat the Republican, the Post-Star says. According to the story’s summary of his announcement, he joined the CIA after the 9/11 attacks and sees the Jan. 6 attack against the U.S. Capitol building as another watershed moment, which Stefanik supported and he did not, the story says.
Bailout money goes toward Albany pay
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said the city will use nearly $81 million in federal pandemic bailout money to pay unionized and non-union workers, including some of the top elected officials in the city, a story in the Times Union says. Each union employee will receive $2 for each hour worked between March 17, 2020, and March 17, 2021, an average of $3,700 per employee. The city also plans to give non-union employees a 3 percent wage hike for 2021 retroactive to Jan. 1 and she will include the raise in her 2022 budget proposal, the story says.
Dack Bikes wins approval
Saranac Lake Development Code Administrator Paul Blaine allowed bike and boat rentals a the Saranac Waterfront Lodge to run throughout the summer since they did not seem to be hurting anyone, but he said that the lodge needed proper approval. The village Development Board approved the site plan amendment on Tuesday, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. Bike share company Dack Bikes had installed a bike rental hub at the hotel in July. The lodge has rented kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and small motorboats all summer, the story says.

The 12866Blog posted the event announcement that the family-friendly Rocktoga concert will go on, Sept. 26 at the Malta Drive-in. The concert, rain or shine, benefits Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital, the post says.
