Figuereo, others, arrested
Saratoga Springs Police arrested Lexis Figuereo, the firebrand leader of the group Black Live Matter Saratoga. Word has not yet come on charges, but Lt. Robert Jillson of the Saratoga Springs Police Department said it stems from activity on July 14, when the BLM Saratoga protest that Figuereo led, held up traffic on Broadway. Airgas plans storage facility
Industrial gas supplier Airgas wants to build a storage and distribution center of 10, 50-foot-tall storage tanks in Guilderland at the Northeast Industrial Park, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The plan calls for a special use permit and height variance. The campus would include offices and garages. It is already connected to a rail line, the story says.
Johnstown garbage and recycling
Dumpster rental company Chris Rizzo Trucking wants the Fulton County Board of Supervisors to OK a new recycling and sorting facility, the Daily Gazette is reporting. The company used their own excavator to sort through trash and recyclables last winter to stay competitive with larger players, the story says, but this runs afoul of the Department of Environmental Conservation, which says they cannot sort with “machinery.” They need approval from the town for that, the story says. Changes at the local landfill made the sorting process a requirement for the company, and a new facility would be more efficient, especially in winter.
Clifton Park solar projects need to do more
Solar projects in Clifton Park should offer more benefits to the community, says the Friends of Clifton Park Open Space group, in a Daily Gazette story. The open space in the town should not simply be lost to solar panels. A moratorium on ground-mounted solar projects has been in effect for nearly nine months and new regulations are looking to control their placement, the story says.
Goldman Sachs CEO donates $500K to Saranac Lake project
A former CEO of investment bank Goldman Sachs, who has a camp in Saranac Lake, has will donate $500,000 to the renovation of the Saranac Lake Civic Center, to help the village prepare for the 2023 World University Games. Barrie Wigmore and his wife Dee Dee are donating the money through their family a story in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise says.
