The Saratoga Casino Hotel plans to give away $100,000 in cash, food and services, the Saratogian is reporting this morning. The casino's "30 Days of Giving" campaign starts now and runs through Dec. 22, the story says. “This year, more than ever so many organizations and families are in need. Our goal behind our '30 Days of Giving' program is not only to provide direct support to each group, but to also help increase the exposure of these amazing organizations," said Skip Carlson, Vice President of External Affairs at Saratoga Casino Hotel, in a prepared statement.

Becton, Dickinson and Company, the medical device company with a factory on Bay Street in Queensbury, announced improvements in COVID detection and reporting earlier this week. BD says their Veritor and Max systems for COVID testing had already been granted emergency use in detection by the FDA. Their new system speeds up the process of reporting from the testing systems and relies less on human data entry, the company, based in Franklin Lakes, N.J., says.

Open Door Mission in Glens Falls has reopened in time to help people with Thanksgiving meals, the Post-Star reports this morning. It was the first time in nine months that patrons entered the soup kitchen on Lawrence Street. During the pandemic, the mission has worked by appointment and distributed meals outdoors, the paper writes. They were helped with donations from the local warehousing and health care company Essity of South Glens Falls.

The timing couldn't be worse for restaurant and bar employees as governors across the nation shut-down gathering places to fight the coronavirus pandemic that is surging across the nation. A story from the Associated Press posted on the Albany Times-Union site yesterday. The US is seeing 175,000 new cases of the virus, and 1,500 deaths, a day the story reports.
