LG Travelodge sold
The Travelodge by Wyndham Hotel in the Town of Lake George just south of Northway Exit 21 was sold for $1.3 million to Muhammad Bilal, president of Motel of Lake George Inc. He owns the wholesale food company Green Mountain Food Services in Whitehall, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The 9.62-acre property includes the 104-room motel, a restaurant, bar and a two-family home.
Air quality start-up partners with Siemens
Intelligent Medicine of Schenectady has developed software that allows building designers and architects see how air and “respiratory droplets” move through a building, and it has the backing of medical tech giant Siemens to see if the software scales, says the Albany Business Journal. The AI simulation looks at the entire space from size and systems such as the heating and cooling, but also how the room is used and by how many people, and tries to learn which infectious particles, if any, might be roaming the halls, the story says.
LGPC sewers to be government-tested twice a decade, under proposed rules
Septic systems within 500 feet of Lake George and 100 feet of streams that empty into the lake will be inspected every five years if a new rule from the Lake George Park Commission is approved at the state level, the Post-Star says. If all goes as planned, the rules will be posted later this summer and a public hearing on the rules will be held in August or September. About 2,700 parcels sit inside the 100- or 500-foot boundary, the story says.
Parents call for lacrosse coach’s ouster
In a May 18 letter to the Saratoga Springs School District, the parents of 12 lacrosse players asked that the girl’s Head Coach Katie Hannon be fired and accused her of verbal abuse including body shaming and bullying, a story in the Daily Gazette says. The district said Hannan has apologized and will remain as head coach through the end of the season, the story says. The team is playing Sectional matches, with a semifinal Section II Class A match against Bethlehem Central High School today, the story says.
Fights on Caroline Street
Fights still occur on Saratoga Springs' Caroline Street in the wee hours of weekend mornings, the Times Union is reporting. This, despite the city and the State Liquor Authority shutting down Gaffney’s, a popular bar on the block. Two people were arrested early Sunday morning for fighting in the street, the story says. Commissioner of Public Safety James Montagnino wants to move from eight officers on weekend patrol to 10 or 12, the story says.
Clifton Park to get another internet provider
Rochester-based Greenlight Networks is laying 100% fiber optic cable in Clifton Park, with a plan to hook customers up in the fall and reach 23,000 by year’s end, a story in the Times Union says. The company is giving free fiber-optic internet to the town’s fire department.
