Wounded deputy sheriff is Glens Falls grad
Vito E. Caselnova IV who was wounded in a gunfight in Saratoga Springs on Sunday Nov. 20 is a 2016 graduate of Glens Falls High School and a former Kingsbury business owner, the Post-Star is reporting. Caselnova went to The College of St. Rose in Albany and ran True North Auto & Boat Services, the story says. He was placed on leave from his deputy sheriff position in Rutland County, Vermont.
Limo defendant needed time to decide
Attorneys for Nauman Hussain, the Schoharie limo company owner at the center of the worst limo crash in U.S. history, say the judge overseeing the case gave their client too little time to decide if he should walk away from a no-jail plea deal, or be immediately sentenced to time in state prison, the Times Union is reporting. Supreme Court Justice Peter Lynch had negated a plea deal OKed by a previous judge that kept Hussain out of prison, forcing the defendant to take 15 minutes to choose between a stiffer penalty or to proceed to court, the story says.
Washington County budget passes, up 8.23%
Washington County’s 2023 budget is up 8.23% over last year, the Post-Star is reporting. The budget, except for interfund transfers, is $122.1 million, an increase of 8.23% from 2022. Expected revenues are up 6.76% as the county’s assessments grew by more than 15% in 2022. Hebron Supervisor and board budget officer Brian Campbell in the budget summary warned that the county must focus on growth.
Food pantries report higher need
More people are reaching out to food pantries so far this holiday season, a story in the Post-Star says. Children from the Abraham Wing School in Glens Falls helped fill the pantry with canned goods at the Warren Hamilton Counties Community Action office. Inflation has impacted need, the story said. The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY which distributes foods to various pantries has been hit by inflation and higher gas prices, the story says.
