Four file suit against Redburn
Four Black construction workers are accusing Redburn Property Services of systemic discrimination in a federal lawsuit, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The four claim that supervisors nicknamed them the "felony crew" and used racial slurs to refer to them. They also say they were paid less than white workers, did not get paid for all of their work and were denied safety equipment. Redburn has launched an internal investigation, the story says.
Malta: GlobalFoundries Fab 8.2 is on track
A Malta Town Supervisor says the plans for a second GlobalFoundries factory are moving forward despite the hiring freeze and looming layoffs, the Daily Gazette is reporting. Supervisor Mark Hammond told the paper that he heard a progress report directly from GF leadership. Christine Rush, the director of public relations for Saratoga County, confirmed that continued progress was their understanding as well. [Read about the layoffs here.]
Fingerpaint laying off staff
After a year of fast expansion, medical PR and Marketing firm Fingerpaint of Saratoga Springs is will implement layoffs, the Times Union is reporting. The company is thus far mum on the number of layoffs and from which departments in the company, the story says.
Marijuana “microbusinesses” will have different rules than the big guys
Draft regulations for full-sized companies in the recreational marijuana industry will divide growing and processing businesses from the retail and café businesses, the Times Union says. “Microbusinesses” will be allowed to operate retail shops in addition to cultivating and processing. A cannabis microbusiness can grow 3,500 square feet indoors, or 10,000 outdoors, the story says.
War in Ukraine sidelines Russian, Belarus student athletes
Leadership of the FISU Winter World University Games said the athletes from Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to compete in the Lake Placid games this January, a story in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise says. The war itselt is not, yet, the issue, but the safety of the players is a concern, the story reports. FISU, the international governing body of the competition, has not yet determined whether athletes are banned because of the war.
