State environmental law will change how houses are powered
The New York State Association of Realtors is running an awareness campaign highlighting what they do and do not like about the state’s Climate Action Council and their recommendations for reducing greenhouse gasses, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. This year, the council must form final scoping plan that will help the state reach a “carbon-neutral economy” by 2050 under the state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act of 2019. The plan will change how homes are heated and powered.
Assembly map still in flux
Although New York State just held an election under newly-drawn political boundaries, but the lines for Assembly Districts are still unconstitutional and will be redrawn, the Times Union says. New boundaries, expected by next year, could result in maps that create more competitive districts, especially for Republicans. The story says that the Independent Redistricting Commission will reconvene under a judge’s order and put forward a final map by April, unless the process is handed to a “Special Master.”
Definition of hotel and motel change in Lake Placid’s final draft of STR regulations
New short-term rental regulations, if adopted by the Town of North Elba and the Village of Lake Placid, would essentially ban new STRs from certain residential areas, cap the number of permits issued in the town, increase fines and redefine hotel and motel, among other changes, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. “Unhosted” rentals will largely be banned, meaning the land owner must be a local or staying on the property. “Bed and breakfast” and “boarding house” will be stricken from local code so as to avoid confusion with short-term rentals, and anyone renting more than four spaces on one property will have to register as a “hotel” or “motel,” the story says. The Town of North Elba plans to extend the moratorium on the STR permits, again, while they finish the regulations and hold public hearings, a second story says.
