Election results are, mostly, in
Times Union, 21st House District: U.S. Rep Elise Stefanik won handily, and if the House of Representatives shifts power to the Republican Party, she will rise in Washington. She beat first-time candidate Democrat Matt Castelli by solid double-digits. She is currently the third-highest member of the Republican Party.
U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, Democrat, beat Liz Joy, Republican, by more than 9 percentage points, the Times Union says.
Saratoga Springs Commissioner of Public Works Jason Golub won his first election. The Democrat defeated a bid from Anthony "Skip" Scirocco, Jr., a Republican, according to the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors' unofficial tallies. Golub had been appointed earlier this year to the position after Scirocco's father Anthony Sr. died while in office. Golub won almost 7,000 votes of the 12,000 cast.
Times Union governor’s race: Gov. Kathy Hochul, Democrat, has claimed victory in the race, and some outlets have reported her win, but U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin had not conceded late last night. She becomes the first elected woman in New York State’s history. She had been Lt. Gov. last year when then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned amid scandal, and she took the top job.
Daily Gazette on the 44th Senate Seat: Republican State Sen. James Tedisco won the 44th Senate District. With all precincts reporting, the unofficial returns had Tedisco over Democratic challenger Michelle Ostrelich with 55.98% or 67,734 votes to 50,655. The Daily Gazette also has stories on U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and Attorney General Letitia James. Both won handily.
State Assembly member Carrie Woerner, Democrat, beat David Catalfamo, Republican, 52.9% to 47.1% in the 113th Assembly District, the Times Union says.
The Post-Star reported on the trouble in Washington County that made machine-reading of ballots impossible. The votes were collected and read by hand, instead. This affected voting in Argyle, Cambridge, Dresden, Easton, Fort Ann, Fort Ann and Fort Edward and Granville, the story says.
Saratoga RV Park in Wilton to double in size
The Florida investment firm that owns the Saratog RV Park is about to add more sites for campers and motorhomes, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The 95-plus-acre park will gain 143 sites, up from 154 to 297. The demand for RV parks is growing the owners tell the ABJ. The company may enlarge the swimming pool and add cottages, the story says.
Scandinavian design in Columbia County
Columbia County is seeing the construction of a 12-home subdivision of Scandinavian design and prices that start at $1.9 million, the Albany Business Journal says. It’s the first single-family home development and the first outside New York City for Roger Bittenbender, the developer of high-end properties. They won approval for the project at the end of last year, the story says.
