Washington County Paper Co expanding
Papermaker Morcon Inc. will invest $14.6 million to expand its 17-acre campus in Washington County, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The company will add 55,000 square feet of manufacturing space. The company has been shoring up sales and contracts through the COVID pandemic and is looking to bring some overseas work back to the United States, the story says.
Warehouse coming to Wilton
Peterson Geotech wants to move its warehousing from Excelsior Avenue in Saratoga Springs to the Blue Lupine Industrial Park off Ballard Road in Wilton, a story in the Albany Business Journal says. The Skaneateles firm purchased a 3.6-acre lot at Blue Lupine industrial park and is looking to put an 6,750-square-foot operations center and warehouse on the property, the story says. They build pilings for New York City high rises.
Stec criticizes gun law
The state’s new gun law has forced reenactors to cancel an event at the Rogers Island Visitors Center in Fort Edward, according to New York State Sen. Dan Stec, Republican, and officials with the center, a story in the Post-Star says. They believe having their weapons on site puts them afoul of the law. However Jean Lapper, the Democrat facing Stec in November, referred to statements made by Warren County Sheriff Jim LaFarr who said no one would be arrested for holding an reenactment. Stec agreed that the likelihood of an arrest is low, but he pointed to other laws that had a carve-out for specific situations and locations, carve-outs the current gun law lacks, the story says.
Druther’s Brewery delayed in Clifton Park
The Druthers Brewing pub planned for Clifton Park may open in October. The original Sept. 15 opening date has passed, a story in the Times Union says. The brewpub is waiting on their liquor license, the story says. The New York State Liquor Authority has been notoriously slow, and now the permit process can take more than half a year, the story says. Druther’s has applied for a temporary license. Friday Sept. 23, the new Speckled Pig Brewing in Ballston Spa will hold its grand opening in the former dress factory that has been dormant for decades. The event is at 4p.m.
Lake Placid development sets eight units aside for market-rate affordable housing
Eight housing units in Lake Placid will be set aside for current or prospective staff from the Lake Placid Central School District and Adirondack Health-run hospitals, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. The Fawn Valley development, a mix of single-family and townhomes under construction now, should open 22 total units next year. Fawn Valley is not an affordable complex with income restrictions, but is market-rate affordable, meaning not built at the luxury end of the sales spectrum, the developer Homestead Development Corporation has told the paper.
