Halfmoon warehousing company secures tax incentives
The Saratoga County Industrial Development Agency approved a tax-incentive package for M.J. Properties’ 43,250-square-foot warehouse in Halfmoon, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The company is so sure of the need for storage space that they are building without any signed tenants. Clearing and excavation will begin soon with construction slated for the fall, the story says.
Albany will grab lots and lots
Albany Industrial Development Agency and Capitalize Albany Corp. won a court decision that will allow the city to take 11 parking lots near the Greyhound/Trailways bus station by eminent domain, a story in the Albany Business Journal says. Capitalize Albany will take control of the property to pursue redevelopment in that area. The total property is less than one acre. The owners said in filings that proper procedure was not followed, but the state’s highest court disagreed. The IDA is expected to offer $2.65 million for the property.
Fundraiser for family in motorcycle crash
The Post-Star is reporting that a GoFundMe page has raised over $28,000 for the family of the victims of a motorcycle crash that killed two and sent another to the hospital. A friend of one victim, Jasmine Luellen, whose 8-year-old son and her boyfriend died in the accident, set up the page that is intended to cover hospital and funeral expenses, the story says. The story also lists other fundraisers in the region. Also, in the Times Union, the motorcycle driver who lost control on northbound Route 9 near Bloody Pond Road in the Town of Lake George, running into a group of bystanders, killing the two, was driving with a suspended license. The state Department of Motor Vehicles, told the paper that Anthony J. Futia, 33, of Albany, has multiple suspensions on his record and has no valid license to drive a car or motorcycle, the story says. Portion of the story were first reported by CBS6News.
Daphne Jordan steps down
Republican State Sen. Daphne Jordan, R-Halfmoon, has “made the decision to not actively campaign” in Republican and Conservative primaries against James Tedisco, R-Glenville, the Post-Star is reporting. Jordan plans not to endorse Tedisco but will encourage people to vote Republican. The two are both incumbents, but the redrawn election maps meant they were running for the same seat. Theirs has been a rancorous race.
Safe boating on Saratoga Lake
Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo with New York State Police, New York Park Police, New York Department of Environmental Conservation Police and the Town of Stillwater Police will increase enforcement on waterways in Saratoga County this summer to prevent incidents like the deadly boating accident that occurred last July, a story in the Daily Gazette says. They will have more police boats on various waterways.
