Cannabis and the law
A new cannabis-focused law practice inside the firm Garfunkel Wild includes an associate who is a former New York State Department of Health counsel, the Albany Business Journal says. The DOH counsel, Jim Dering, has worked for six years at Garfunkel and chairs the firm’s cannabis practice of seven lawyers, the story says.
Stefanik on Jan. 6 attack on Capitol
U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik voted against forming a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol building in Washington because she said it was too narrow in focus and did not include investigations of attacks on federal buildings elsewhere, according to a story in the Post-Star this morning.
Historic preservation in SpaCity
65 Phila Street, a home in Saratoga Springs, built in 1851, is saved from the wrecking ball, the Saratogian is reporting this morning. Officials have long said the previous owner was intentionally letting the building molder until it would be deemed a hazard and could be replaced. The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation stepped in and bought the property. Nearby 69 Phila was sold earlier this year to owners who plan to rehab that property, the story says.
Boating inspections
Boaters heading to the Adirondacks will find inspectors from Paul Smith’s College and the Adirondack Watershed Institute at 60 locations, checking boats and educating, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. The storys says that the program works with the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Adirondack Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Prevention Program. The AWI’s boat inspection program is the largest in the state with 100 seasonal employees, the story says.
