Despite marijuana’s reputation for slowing things down, pot growers are in a hurry, says an Albany Business Journal story. They are in a race for space in New York State, and if they have not started running yet, they are behind, says Daria Mallin, owner of Albany’s Envision Architects, in the story. The firm has already been designing cultivation and processing facilities. These facilities are not simple greenhouses, but complex factories, she says in the story. She calls it a bit of the “wild west” as companies design and tweak as regulations become available.
Transportation, Mobility and Commuting
The Lake George Trolley service has been cut short due to a driver shortage, the Post-Star says. Greater Glens Falls Transit will not have enough operators when they open Memorial Day, so the last trip to leave Lake George Village will be at 6:15 p.m. instead of 10:30 p.m., the story says.
Environment, Energy and Sustainability
Also in the Post-Star, the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation restarted its attack on the hemlock woolly adelgid on the east shore of Lake George. The invasive pests appeared last year. They kill hemlocks in as little as four years. The tree is the fourth-most prevalent in the state and is a mainstay on the lake, the story said.

Saratoga County will stick with three early-voting sites, despite the lines in last year’s elections, the Times-Union reported earlier this week. Supervisor Tara Gaston, (D) Saratoga Springs, is calling for two more locations added to the Ballston Spa, Clifton Park and Wilton sites: one in Saratoga Springs, and one in the northern portion of the county, the story says. Republican Commissioner Roger Schiera, pushed back saying there are enough sites, and the cost, at $10,000 per site, is prohibitive.
