Commercial Real Estate
Elizabeth Miller’s project on Park Street in Glens Falls, a two-storey building she is renovating into a mixed-use residential/commercial building with her son, Ben Miller, has been awarded financing, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. She secured a $2 million mortgage through Adirondack Trust Co., the story says.
Financial Services, Insurance and Banking
Also in the ABJ, the Capital Region start-ups may get financial help from big-money venture capitalists. Armory Square Ventures, the firm looking to support the start-ups, says the Capital Region until recently has not had the software development that they focus on in the projects and has had a hard time gaining any venture capital traction, but they are starting to see the possibilities, the story says.
Government, Law and Legal Services
Police arrested the former owner of Siro’s, a bar at the Saratoga Racecourse, the Times-Union reported. Scott R. Solomon, 35, of Cohoes, was charged with offering a false instrument and possessing a forged instrument in dealings with the city. The two types of forgery are felonies, the story said.
Travel, Tourism and Recreation
Parking in the High Peaks bent in an odd way, the Adirondack Explorer is reporting. Metal parking area delineators, which kept people from parking in certain pull-offs, were bent to the ground on Route 73. Stopping the parking along those pull-offs was a recent step by the state to control crowds in the Adirondacks, and hikers and others have not been happy with the restrictions, the story says. No one has been fingered in the vandalism.
Restaurants and Food Service
“Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is struggling to hire manufacturing workers for its beer factory and staff members for its restaurants in this coastal area, a shortage that has grown so acute that the company has cut dining room hours…” That is in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, but it should sound familiar to this area. [If not, read our coverage on this issue.] In The New York Times, they report that Dogfish Head and other restaurants are turning to unconventional means to try and draw workers. Dogfish is giving away cases of their 120 minute IPA. The Times story says that managers, wary of putting money into a recovery they are unsure of, have not been boosting wages enough to draw workers from their couches. Also, some are taking jobs in different industries.
