A coalition of trade groups is trying to block Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s $15 per month internet access law, the Times-Union is reporting. The law was passed as part of the budget and is aimed at helping to get broadband internet to everyone, regardless of income or location, the story says. The Cuomo administration believes internet access should be regulated more like a utility. The telecomm groups say that the law violates the federal policy to not interfere with internet rates. According to the story, Spectrum Cable, which is a large provider in the area, is not a party to the lawsuit, though they are evaluating it. The company offers a $14.99 per month service already, and it may comply with the law, the story says.
