A house on Phila Street in Saratoga Springs will still stand after the Design Review Committee voted unanimously to deny demolition, the Times-Union is reporting. The house at 65 Phila St. is in the Eastside Historic District of the city. The house next door, at 69 Phila St., was saved from demolition when a lawyer for the couple that owns both said that house is under contract for sale, the story says.
A law that has been under consideration for a year is getting a push from housing rights activists as part of the New York State budget negotiations, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. Known as the “good cause” measure it would allow evictions for eight particular reasons including not paying rent or conducting illegal activity. The New York State Association of Realtors opposes the law saying the state’s current eviction rights laws are already the strongest in the nation, the story says.

Also in the ABJ, the Port of Albany has selected two design firms to help them plan the 80-plus acre wind turbine plant in Bethlehem. The full project will run at least $300 million and create the most durable piers in the port. The current contracts go to two firms that will help with initial design, construction administration and bid review, the story says.

The Post-Star is reporting (via the Buffalo News) that the state is close to legalizing marijuana. The state will have a strong role in the sale and distribution of the product with much of the money going toward low-income areas of the state that have historically been the larger target of anti-pot policing, the story says.
Travel, Tourism and Recreation
The 2023 Winter World University Games in Lake Placid needs a mascot, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has established a contest to create one. The press release announcing the contest says the mascot should "capture the collegial spirit of the international competition and the heart of New Yorkers.”
