Carlton Hollow a senior living apartment complex in Milton sold for $23 million, the Albany Business Journal reported this morning. Welltower Inc. of Toledo, Ohio bought the property. They specialize in health care and senior living real estate and are a publicly traded company with over 1,700 buildings in a $32 billion portfolio, the story says.
Jerry Nudi, who bought the former Valmet property in Hudson Falls, plans to fill buildings, including the 300 foot long, 45 foot tall building that used to construct paper dryers for the area paper industry, but he does not have a tenant for the location yet. The Post-Star walked through the building with the one man who remains to oversee its empty insides. The story gives a history of the property dating back to 1858 when it was an ironworks foundry.
Education and Training
Area educators penned a letter to the state’s Department of Health asking for policy changes that would allow students back into the classroom more easily. They would follow local health official advice, the letter says, according to the Saratogian. Academic failure, mental health challenges and absenteeism are three of the problems the educators are facing. Let students back in with social distancing requirements that will be reversed if COVID cases swell, the story reports.
Travel and Tourism
The Olympic Regional Development Authority approved changes to the Olympic Speed Skating oval and its snow making equipment on Whiteface Mountain, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. The renovations will take place over the next two years at a total cost of nearly $20 million.
Government, Law and Legal Services
The Town of Ticonderoga is considering creating an economic development committee. At the same time the town may consolidate its planning and zoning committees, the Adirondack Sun is reporting. The town has troubles fielding enough members of the planning and zoning boards while public sentiment is leaning toward having an economic development committee officially sanctioned by the town, the story says. A few private groups currently act as an ad hoc economic development committee.
