Government, Law and Legal Services
Impeachment for Gov. Andrew Cuomo is a possibility that the state Assembly is considering, the Times-Union is reporting. The impeachment consideration comes closely on the heals of lawmakers asking the governor to save them the hassle and just resign. The judiciary committee will look into allegations of the governor’s sexual abuse and his handling of COVID-19 data, the story reports. At least six women have come forward saying the governor inappropriately touched them. The latest says he groped her in his closed office. That, in turn, started a criminal investigation of Cuomo's behavior.
Environment, Energy and Sustainability
The Fund for Lake George and the Lake George Association are merging, the Post-Star is reporting. They cited the need for a coordinated effort to fight against various environmental issues such as algal blooms--the lake had the first ever recorded last year--and protection against invasive species, the story says.
Travel, Tourism and Recreation
The state’s Department of Environmental Conservation is recommending a number of ideas to help mitigate the effect that too many hikers are having on Adirondack Park trails, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. The story says that most are familiar including a permit-to-hike system and more park rangers to oversee use. Also included is an idea to create a real-time online app that would help people see which parking areas and trails are most congested, the story says.
Architecture, Engineering and Development
Using new “large-scale subdivision” guidelines in the Adirondack Park, staffers of the park agency said a plan for 32 homes on more than 1,100 acres should be approved, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. Environmental groups claim that the development is too disturbing to the forest and wildlife. Staff said they looked at migration patterns of a variety of mammals and the development stays out of the way. As well, song birds will be little affected, the story reports.
Restaurants and Food Service
The Purple Pub is up for sale, the Albany Business Journal is reporting this morning. The brothers who have owned it and run it in Colonie since 1972 said the time has come for retirement.
