Possible sewage leak in Lake George
The state Department of Environmental Conservation has not yet said how much sewage, if any, leaked from the Hearthstone Point Campground, north of Lake George Village, into Lake George, the Post-Star is reporting. They also did not say if the leak occurred on the lake side of Route 9N or on the mountain side, further from the lake. The campground has facilities on both sides of the road. Many agencies responded to the spill Saturday morning, the story says. The DEC runs the campground.
State grant funding program opens
An $800 million New York State small business grant program is aimed at covering expenses lost during the pandemic, a story in the Albany Business Journal says. The program reimburses up to $50,000 for provable year-over-year losses, for business with gross receipts of $25,000 to $500,000 in 2019 and 2020, the story says. The state estimates that 330,000 businesses are eligible.
Ft. Edward/South Glens Falls school merger presentation
The advisory committee looking to dissolve Ft. Edward schools and merge them with South Glens Falls will present their report to the public this evening. The study has taken a year and looks at what happens to the teachers, the students and buildings in each school system, a story in the Post-Star says. The report will go before the state Education Department in July and a joint meeting of both school boards in August. A final vote comes in October.
"The Saratoga Soul" exhibition highlights African-American experience
A photo exhibition opening Juneteenth (June 19), will highlight the African-American experience in Saratoga Springs, the Times-Union says. The exhibition will be held in a tent at 29 Doten Ave. which will house a series of events highlighting “the Saratoga Soul” this summer.
Code Enforcer Jay White forced out after Pataki and others berate him
Former Gov. George Pataki accused Town of Essex code enforcement officer Jay White of an abuse of power during a six-hour public meeting that ended with the town asking an unapologetic White to step down. He will at the end of the year, the Adirondack Sun is reporting. White, who was hired in December, said he was just trying to follow the letter of the law to keep people safe, but town residents, including the former governor, said he was abusive and intimated people.
