Stewart's Shops buys BlueOx's shops
Stewart’s Shops, based in Malta, will buy a chain of convenience stores in central New York, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. Eight BlueOx stores were purchased and at least six will become Stewart’s Shops, the story says. Owned by Oxford of Chenango County, southwest of Utica, the company is a gas and oil distributor and one-time owner of Nice-n-Easy stores.
Concerts in the orchard
Hicks Orchard has planned a series of concerts for the summer, the Post-Star is reporting. Called "Second Saturdays," they start this weekend. Most of the ticket sales--$18 for lawn seats and $25 table seats--goes to the performers, the story says.
Lake George football players threaten to walk out
Lake George High School football players are threatening to sit on the bench--at home--if the team merges with Corinth Central School, the Times-Union is reporting. The students fear losing a favorite head coach, but the board of education, which has approved the merger, says Lake George alone may not be able to field a team.
Townhouses are too much in Saranac Lake
In Saranac Lake a proposed townhouse development has people asking about issues beyond the number of bathrooms, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. Developers at various public hearings said the townhouses would fill a housing need, but neighbors say they will become short-term rentals and will displace current residents as they are built. As well, the property is owned by the village mayor, an area developer, the story says. Part of the pressure to build comes from the fact that there are so few lots left that are undeveloped.
