“Good Cause” eviction is law in Albany
A law that gives tenants in larger apartment buildings more rights before eviction passed the Albany Common Council on Monday, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The 'good cause' eviction law is the first of its type in New York. Developers and landlords fought the law saying it would stop new construction and bankrupt smaller landlords, the story says.
Ginelle Jones awarded by Rotary
Ginelle Jones who has been leading the Warren County response to the coronavirus pandemic was named “Citizen of the Year” by the Rotary Club of Glens Falls. Jones is the director of public health and patient services for Warren County Public Health. Her leadership helped to keep our community on track, the Rotarians wrote in the press release, according to a story in the Post-Star. Jean Lapper, past president of the Rotary Club, was honored with the Rotarian of the Year Award. The Charter Day Award went to Brian Corcoran, senior regional finance director of Lee Enterprises, and Kim Bren, executive director of the Glens Falls Senior Center, the story says.
Siro’s Chef arrested
Siro’s restaurant chef Bobby Missinelli is really fugitive Robert Barber, Jr., of Ballston Spa, say the State Police. The story was reported by the Gazette and then the Times Union. He was arrested Friday. State Police said they were searching for Barber regarding out-of-state and regional warrants for his arrest on the charge of second-degree possession of a forged document, the story says.
Ironman might not return to Lake Placid
Lake Placid village officials are not sure if the Ironman triathlon should return in 2022, a story in the Daily Enterprise says. The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, which pays the competition’s organizers $90,000 is shifting its marketing approach to lure the tourism that works for both the community and the visitor, and the community, the story says, is not sure the Ironman is it. At issue is timing. The event falls during peak tourism season and can be disruptive, the story says.
