Kaitlyn Hobbs Demurs has been named to President-Elect Joe Biden’s team. The Glens Falls High School graduate has a law degree from George Washington University and worked for the president-elect when he was vice president under Barack Obama, the Post-Star reports.
New state laws regulating paid sick leave, minimum wages in the North Country, and commercial property tax exemptions go into effect this month, the Albany Business Journal reported at the end of December. Small businesses must offer a week of sick leave a year, and larger ones even more than that. The minimum wage also moved up to $12.50 per hour. Rules regarding the oft-abused 485 tax exemption on commercial properties have changed to make sure the properties getting the exemption are actually commercial properties in need of renovation.

Seizing upon the unprecedented sale of boats and RVs this summer, business owner, Tony Casale, built a storage facility in Halfmoon that is nearly half-full. In an Albany Business Journal story, Casale says that he is filling a niche using space that he had tried to turn into apartments, but that the town had not approved.

Talia Cass was named new communications director for Wellspring in Saratoga, the Saratogian is reporting. Wellspring is a domestic violence resource and counseling organization.
