Poor communication was the largest culprit in a mishandled, countywide distribution of just 400 coronavirus vaccines earlier this week, the Times-Union is reporting. A meeting Wednesday of the county health committee turned angry and then was moved to executive session away from the public as town supervisors wondered why they were being asked to pick who in their communities would have access. Since the story broke yesterday, supervisors have calmed and said those responsible, such as Saratoga Springs Supervisor Tara Gaston, had good intentions but the county had poor planning to handle the situation, and the move to executive session was likely illegal, the story says.
As many as 12,743 residents died from COVID-19 in New York’s nursing homes, far more than the official 8,727 originally reported by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration, the Post-Star, the Times-Union and other news outlets are reporting. New York Attorney General, Letitia James, released the report yesterday that both says the state not only undercounted nursing home deaths but also dismissed evidence that nursing homes were not properly caring for seniors. Cuomo’s office confirmed the numbers after the release of the attorney general’s report. People who contracted the disease at a nursing home often died in the hospital, where the death was officially logged. Cuomo’s administration early in the pandemic required nursing homes to take residents which detractors say added to the ghastly numbers.

Halfmoon may get a senior living development, the ABJ reports. The proposal calls for a three-storey building on over 13 acres. Frank Nigro, the proposal’s developer, would be adding to his properties in Guilderland, Colonie, North Greenbush, Saratoga and Glenville. The town must approve a zone “planned development district” before the project can proceed.
