Elizabeth Miller’s latest expansion is in gas. The Glens Falls businesswoman, owner of Miller Mechanical, Doty Machine, The Park Theatre and Doc’s Restaurant among others, has leased space on Third Street in South Glens Falls to Noble Gas Solutions, the Albany Business Journal is reporting this morning. The business will sell specialty gasses to manufacturers such as welders and to hospitals in the tri-county region, the story says.
Government, Law and Legal Services
Glens Falls Mayor Dan Hall will not run for reelection at the end of his term this fall, the Post-Star is reporting. Jane Reid is also stepping down. Hall, the Democrat, and Reid, the Republican, were both elected in 2017 under a “unity ticket” that aimed to avoid gridlock and make changes in Glens Falls.
State representatives say Cuomo’s focus on broadband access in the state, during his State of the State address yesterday, is good, but they wonder at some of the facts and at the budget deficit that might make all of this difficult, the Post-Star reports this morning. Local representatives in the story question the governor’s commitment to seeing broadband fully through and wonder if the governor even recognizes how bad the situation is, not just in the Adirondacks but in the tri-county region as well.
Cars, Trucks and Boats
An Essex County judge signed a restraining order that halted work on the Saranac Lake Marina, perhaps indefinitely, the Adirondack Explorer reported on Friday. Although the marina was granted permission by the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Adirondack Park Agency to expand from 219 storage spaces to 292 and to add covered docks, tours and other amenities, a former DEC official sued, with support from a former APA official, and won the stay on the grounds that the state agencies ignored too many mitigating issues. It goes back to court Feb. 10.
Restaurants and Food Service
Davidson Brothers brewpub is closed “temporarily.” Yesterday, we linked in the Executive Summary to a Post-Star story that said the downtown Glens Falls restaurant was considering the shut-down. A check of their restaurant and their social media yesterday shows that they have closed their doors.
