Dr. Dennis McKenna, president and CEO of Albany Med, in an interview with the Albany Business Journal, says he has three major foci for the coming year: the healthcare system’s workforce and negotiations with unions; financial stability, especially given the way the coronavirus pandemic stretches finances in unanticipated ways; and systems integration as they write a three-year plan (2022-2025) to integrate operations of the four hospitals in the system, including Glens Falls and Saratoga hospitals.
Retail and eCommerce
Davidson Brothers Brewery may shut down until spring, after a coronavirus vaccine is more widely available and the weather is warm enough for outdoor dining, the Post-Star is reporting. An owner of the establishment in downtown Glens Falls says he kept the restaurant open despite COVID restrictions on capacity and air quality to help keep his employees employed. Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce head Michael Bittel says in the story that the next two months will be tough, but he is optimistic about 2021. Education and Training
The SUNY college system fell 5% this fall, and SUNY Adirondack was not spared the bad news. The community college saw a 12.5% drop, a story in the Post-Star says. Low income students are likely hardest it, the college said in the story.
Travel, Tourism and Recreation
Ski area Mount Pisgah in Saranac Lake opened over the weekend, a story in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise notes. They are not holding ski lessons because of the pandemic. COVID restrictions, as everywhere, are in place.
