The nonprofit Saratoga Economic Development Corporation is suing the state in an attempt to change a state ruling from October that said the EDC was a local authority--not an independent corporation--affiliated with county government and the Saratoga County Industrial Development Agency, the Albany Business Journal reported on Friday. The EDC helps businesses plan to move to the area and apply for tax incentives. It get 15% of its budget from government entities and the rest comes from dues, grants and fees, the story says. If the state is correct, the EDC will have to report more data to the state and local governments.
Government, Law and Legal Services
The Washington County government approved its police reform plan, according to a story in the Post-Star. The plan calls for all officers to get additional anti-bias and disability awareness training, and it creates a professional standards office in the Sheriff’s department, the story says. The plan was due to the state government by April 1. All police departments in the state are required to create and submit a plan. The county also allotted money for a survey of broadband coverage in the county, the story says. [Our coverage of that, is here.]
Arts and Culture
The people who lived around Crane Mountain in the Adirondacks back in the late 1800s were captured by photographer Rev. Osmond D. Putnam. Those photos--or really glass-plate negatives--in storage since the 1980s, are now on display through the Adirondack Research Library at Union College, a story in the Times-Union says. The photos from 1885 to 1887 cover a range of subjects from the landscape, the logging camps and family photos of people in their best clothing. The collection has been digitized and can be found here.
