PCBs in the groundwater are to blame for Warren County’s high rates of cancer, a new report states. The Post-Star has the story this morning. According to the story, a study-of-studies looked at the reasons given for the high cancer rates--obesity and smoking for instance--and said Warren County was average for those cancer-causing triggers, but cancer rates in the county were above average. County residents have exceedingly high levels of PCBs in their blood, however, and this led researchers to say that the chemical used at the Fort Edward and Hudson Falls General Electric plants were to blame. General Electric had conducted its own study that showed employees at the company did not have cancer rates higher than the public, the story says.
